"A plantation by any other name is just a farm.
But it does roll off the tongue
a little sweeter, doesn't it?"
- Sweet Home Alabama
The Windy Willow Plantation is located on the beautiful rolling landscape
in St. Ann's, Ontario. A peaceful world away from the everyday.
Our farm is a family based property, with kids, pets and only the highest respect to
all our visitors,
including bees, birds, and deer.
This is why, The Windy Willow Plantation is 100% Organic.
We use only environmentally safe pest control, with ladybugs, neem oil
and natural mushroom compost for exceptional growth.
Why chose an organically grown product?
From our initial concept, to our present day operation, our ambition is to always
be to be as good to Mother Nature as she has been to us.
This is why our decision to grow our sunflowers 100% organically is so important to us.
Growing organic field crops is time consuming and challenging, but at the end of the day
we have a product that is beneficial to our customers and not harmful to our environment.
Traditionally field cut sunflowers, are covered with chemicals to control pests which states quite clearly
on the label that the pesticide will kill, all bugs, including lady bugs, bees, fish, birds, and whatever
animal chooses to venture in our field, or drink the water downstream from our creeks and rivers.
Also
traditional fertilizers that are high in nitrates can be harmful to our water supply which
are used to speed growth.
Here on The Plantation our pests are controlled by North American lady bugs which
we purchase from a lady bug farm by the hundreds of thousands and
introduce into our crop, and our hardworking team pick out the remaining harmful bugs by hand.
We spread recycled mushroom compost as a natural fertilizer for our sunflowers which is is costly,
but provides them with the nutrients they need for exceptional growth and longevity.
Our weeds are controlled using organically fermented vinegar, which we produce from the
apples and pears grown right here on The Plantation.
